Riverside Woman, 19, Faces Drug Charges

Barrington police charge her with possession of illegal drugs and alcohol.

A young Riverside woman was stopped by Barrington police early Sunday morning, May 5, and charged with possessing and  transporting illegal drugs.

Kelly V. Correia, 19, of 115 Oak Crest Drive, East Providence, was stopped around 1:42 am while driving a car with a license plate light out. She was charged with driving in possession of illegal drugs, possessing illegal drugs and possessing alcohol by a minor.

Among the illegal drugs found in the vehicle were crack cocaine in a plastic baggie and ecstasy pills, and an unidentified white powder in a baggie. The alcohol included vodka, beer, rum and a liquer, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

Police also found less than an ounce of marijuana, now considered a misdemeanor. She received a citation for the latter.

Correia was stopped at Metropolitan Park Drive near Brook Street. Four other males from East Providence and Providence, ranging in age from 19 to 23, also were traveling in the red Kia Rio with her, but she was the only occupant charged, LaCross said.

Her mother was contacted and went to the police station at around 7 am to pay the bail. Correia was released with a date to appear in District Court on the drug and alcohol possession charges.
