Top New England Golfers Playing for PGA Sectional Title in E.P.

Greater East Providence will be the center of the New England golf world for the next three days. 

The New England Professional Golfers Association (NEPGA) is holding its 2013 championship from Aug. 19-21 at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford and Ledgemont Country Club in nearby Seekonk.

It’s the seventh time the New England section of the PGA is holding the event in Rhode Island but only the second time it will take place at Wannamoisett – the first time was way back in 1924. 

The golf tourney features 195 PGA pros from all over New England. They will compete for $85,000 in prize money, including a $14,000 first-place check.

The first two rounds of the event today and Tuesday will be played at Wannamoisett and Ledgemont. The final round on Wednesday will take place entirely at the Rumford golf course with the 60 golfers that make the cut after the first two days playing for the New England title. 

Among the golfers in the field are defending champion Ed Kirby of Alpine Country Club in Cranston and Troy Pare, the head pro at Wannamoisett and the 2005 NEPGA champion.
