Velma B. Gomes, 77, Seamstress

Velma Barbosa Gomes, of Goldsmith Avenue, East Providence, died peacefully surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home late Thursday night, July 4, 2013. She was 77.

She was the wife of the late John M. Gomes. Born Oct. 6, 1935, in Brava, Cape Verde, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Barbosa and Angela Feijoo Vasconcelos.

She was a seamstress at David's Bridal before retiring.

She leaves her four children, Cindy Gomes of Warwick, Olga Downes of Warwick, John M. Gomes Jr. of Homosassa, FL, and David Gomes of Hanover, MA; and her five grandchildren. She also was the sister of Francisco Feijoo Barbosa of Cumberland, Zilma Brito of East Providence, Beatriz Silva of Lisbon, Portugal, and of the late Abelamia Feijoo Vasconcelos, Maria Conceicao Feijoo Vasconcelos, Carlos Feijoo Barbosa, Ester Barbosa Fortes, and Edith Barbosa Elverrillo.

Her funeral service will begin on Tuesday, July 9,  at 9 am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a service at 11 am in the Swan Point Cemetery Redwood Chapel, Providence. Calling hours are today from 5-8 pm.
