Man Run Down And Killed Walking Dog Was Grammy-Nominated Musician: Reports
The woman charged with running over 70-year-old Roderick "Rory" Macleod remains hospitalized, police said
HOPKINTON, RI β The Richmond dog walker run over and killed Saturday was a Grammy-nominated musician, according to reports.
Roderick "Rory" Mcleod, 70, and his wife also hosted annual summer music festivals on their 10-acre property, according to People magazine.
"As for Macleod, friends and fans are remembering the musician as a true talent. He earned a Grammy nomination in the β80s for his bass work with the group Roomful of Blues," the People story said. He was also inducted into the Rhode Island Hall of Fame.

Roomful of Blues expressed sorrow for Macleod's death in a Facebook post.

"Roomful of Blues would like to extend our deepest condolences to Rory Macleodβs family, friends and all of his fans," the post said. "We would like to acknowledge his diverse musical contributions as well as being a wonderful and gentle soul. There are no words for such an immense loss. RIP dear friend."
Former Roomful of Blues manager Bob Bell also posted to Facebook about Macleod's death.

"The Rory I remember was Rory the musician, a fine human and a dog lover," Bell's post said. "Back in the 80βs everywhere he went, his dog Walter accompanied him. Dear Walter, dear old one-eyed Walter, Walter who doted upon Rory, and Rory upon him."
Macleod's musical career spanned a half century, according to the Westerly Sun.
"He was the original bassist for the first solo outings of Duke Robillard, who was inducted into the R.I. Music Hall of Fame in 2014, and took part in many recordings with Paul Geremia, inducted in 2013, as a member and producer of Jack Smith & The Rockabilly Planet," the Sun reported. He also saw success in a solo career, releasing a single in 1993 and an album in 1995."

The woman charged with running Macleod down and killing him, 41-year-old Shannon Godbout, was charged with driving so as to endanger, resulting in death, and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.

Godbout was "in possession of numerous illegal narcotics and packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution," according to a media release from the Hopkington Police Department.

Godbout also has a criminal history of more than 100 arrests and 40 traffic citations, the release said.

Godbout remains in police custody at Rhode Island Hospital, according to the release.
"The Hopkinton Police Department is collaborating closely with the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office to present her in court as a probation violator," the release said. "Both the Hopkinton Police Department and the Attorney General's Office will review all evidence to determine the appropriate charges to be filed at the time of her arraignment in District Court, and or any additional charges."
