From the Ashes: Rec Office Rises Again

On the site of a late-night blaze that destroyed most of the building, the new Johnston Recreation Department office is nearing completion at Johnston Memorial Park.

The , apparently sparked by an electrical problem, left the original structure unusable.

This week, staffers from the town and Clean Care of New England continued the work to finish the new facility, which is roughly twice the size of the original building. A new garage attached to the building is about three times the size of the original.

Mayor Joseph Polisena estimated that the building should be reopened by the end of May or the beginning of June.
