LINCOLN, RI — An apparent lightning strike to the radio tower at Lincoln Police Department headquarters during Saturday's thunder storms damaged communications equipment and injured a dispatcher.

Police Chief Brian Sullivan told WPRI that the dispatcher, who was on the phone at the time of the incident, was sent to the hospital as a precaution.

An electrical surge took out the dispatch phone system and some computer equipment. Mutual aid from North Smithfield stepped up to help field phone calls. Police maintained their ability to serve the public, Sullivan said.
