With the start of hurricane season just ahead, now is a great time to build “communications resiliency”- well beyond your smartphone- by adding a low-cost, amateur radio capability that can enhance other outdoor activities.

It just takes a few hours to earn your FCC amateur radio license, and soon you’ll be able to talk with fellow regional “hams” (and those worldwide) independent of vulnerable infrastructures like our electrical grid, cell phone network, or the Internet.

The next FCC amateur radio licensing class, using Zoom, starts Tuesday, March 7th at 6 PM. This free class is open to the public, of all ages and is sponsored by the 150 members of the Newport County Radio Club. See the club's web page at https://w1sye.org/?page_id=151 for details.
