Case Dismissed Against Middletown Officer Richard Gamache: AG
State police in October charged Gamache with Domestic Simple Assault, but the state had to dismiss the case. The witness would not testify.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—The case against Middletown police Lt. Richard Gamache has been dismissed, the state Attorney General's office said Wednesday. The reason is because the only witness is not responsive. The AG's office said the state had no choice but to dismiss the case because the "complaining witness" did not respond despite repeated attempts to serve her. Tiffany Walaski is the only witness to the incident, the AG's office said. Her testimony was necessary because there is no video of the incident and no other evidence in the case.
State police arrested him on Oct. 14 and charged him with one count of Domestic Simple Assault in connection to an incident that happened while Gamache was off-duty. At the time, Deputy police Chief Ferenc Karoly said Gamache was "placed on investigative suspension and removed from duty pending" the outcome of the case, per the Law Enforcement Officer's Bill of Rights.
Middletown police Lt. Jason Ryan said the department has no comment at this time.
