Close Swimming Areas At Middletown's Third And Peabody's Beaches: RIDOH

High bacteria counts were found in the water, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — High bacteria counts were discovered at Middletown's Third and Peabody's beaches, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The department of health on Wednesday recommended closing the swimming areas at both Third and Peabody's beaches due to the high bacteria counts.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said in a media release. The status of a beach may change as new data become available."
