Middletown Father, Son Caught With 79 Guns: Police

Jeremy Speck was not legally allowed to buy guns, so his son Xavier Speck bought them for him, Middletown police said.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — A father and son were arrested Friday after Middletown police said they seized 79 guns from their home.

Jeremy Speck, 43, and Xavier Speck, 24 were both arrested. Jeremy Speck was charged with 51 counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, two counts, of providing false information in attempting to purchase a firearm and one count of possession of body armor by a person convicted of a crime of violence. Xavier Speck was charged with four counts of providing false information to purchase a firearm.

Police said they executed a search warrant at the family's Lawrence Street home, after learning Jeremy Speck may have been possessing guns illegally. Jeremy Speck was previously convicted of a violent crime in Texas, which forbid him from owning guns, police said. Police said Xavier Speck was suspected of buying guns for his father.

Police said Xavier Speck admitted to buying guns for his father, and both men were arrested without incident.

Both men were released on bail and are scheduled to appear in Superior Court in June.
