5 THINGS: Basketball Tournaments, Art Journals and Alison Brie
Looking for something to do today? Just looking for some random information to entertain you? Well, one of these "five things" should apply then.

Here are Five Things for Thursday, December 29, 2011:
Boys in tournament finals. Thanks to a 71-42 drubbing of Division III East Greenwich, the Narragansett High School boys' basketball team moves on in the finals of its holiday tournament. At 7:45 p.m. tonight, the boys take on Fitch High School of Groton, CT. Fitch beat South Kingstown 54-47 in the opener of the tournament to advance to the finals. The consolation game between South Kingstown and East Greenwich will be held at 6 p.m.
Girls in tournament finals (too). Thanks to 11 points from freshman Chelsea Sahagian and 10 points from senior Jackie Iannucci, the girls' basketball team has advanced to the finals in the North Kingstown holiday basketball tournament, beating Division I South Kingstown 43-38. The Providence Journal has a full box score here. The Mariners will get a rematch with the hosting Skippers as a result, who beat Division II Cranston East 54-24. In the Injury Fund opener for both teams on Dec. 9, the Skippers beat Narragansett 52-26.

And then there's sports. With the holidays still in full effect, and New Year's Eve coming up, our events calendar is still pretty light. As a result, here is yet another sporting event – Prout's boys' basketball team is at 7 p.m. In case you're unawares, Bishop Fenwick is a Catholic college prep school in Peabody (Pea-buddy), MA, which is also home to one of the few Sonic Drive-In's in New England. (Yes, this is me padding for space.) Prout is 4-1 overall this year, and 3-0 in Division III-South play.
Awesome Art Journals for Tweens and Teens! The title of the latest event at the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library kind of explains it better than I can, no? For more info, check out the event listing . The event is open for ages 10 and up, and it starts at 1 p.m. Pre-registering is recommended, so give the library a call at 789-9507.

Happy birthday, Alison Brie! Today, Community star Alison Brie turns 29. You probably don't know her though, because no one watches Community, even though it's one of the most cleverest network sitcoms of the past five years. (See relevant Christmas clip here.) She's also starred on Mad Men and Scream 4. Thanks to Wikipedia, I can tell you that prior to becoming a television actress, Brie worked as a clown at birthday parties. You can follow her on Twitter here.
