5 THINGS: Glee-ful Birthday, Storytime and Dancing

It's the birthday of a great American actress, the Rams are playing, the Mariners are swimming and others are dancing.

Here are the Five Things for Wednesday, February 1, 2012:

“Now here’s a little story I’ve got to tell / About three bad brothers you know so well.” Okay, so they will probably not be playing the Beastie Boys for preschoolers at today (hopefully). But they will be having Registration is required, so if you’re a newcomer, make sure you make it there a bit early. If you can’t make it this week, they’re also hosting the event on Feb. 8 and Feb. 15. Recommended ages are 3 to 6, and the event is free.

Add some salsa to your weekly routine! Since it is the beginning of the month, now does seem like a good time to mention at . Sessions are $15, but really, how can you put a price upon learning a new art? The first session – salsa, practice, foxtrot and more practice – runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., following by a second session – beginner Argentine tango and additional practice – from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. No experience or partner required! How come there are no good songs about swimming? I feel like there should be, or at least, that I should be made aware of it. Speaking of swimming, the girls’ team (2-4, 2-4 Division I) squares off against Mount St. Charles (0-5, 0-5 Division I) at the Woonsocket YMCA today. The meet starts at 4 p.m. (which is somewhat surprising, since a bus is going to have to haul to make it all the way up there in time). The only other Narragansett sport going on is wrestling, and for more info on that, click here. The Prout School is off until Friday.

“We won a game yesterday – If we win one today, that’s two in a row. If we win one tomorrow, that’s called a winning streak. It has happened before.” – Lou Brown, Major League 2. Surprising pretty much everyone, the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team (4-18, 1-5 Atlantic 10) upset the Flyers (14-7, 4-3 Atlantic 10) in Dayton this past weekend. For a recap of the 86-81 win from GoRhody, click here. The Rams will look for their first win streak of the year tonight, as they host the University of Massachusetts Minutemen (16-5, 5-2 Atlantic 10). We will be live blogging from the Ryan Center tonight, so check back in around 7 p.m. for that.

“I’m pretty sure my cat’s been reading my diary.” Today is the 25th birthday of one of my favorite actresses, Heather Elizabeth Morris. Never heard of her? … Well, she plays Brittney on Glee. (Don’t judge.) She’s awesome, and steals every scene she speaks in with her quotes. Entertainment Weekly has a gallery of her best zingers right here.
