5 THINGS: Sports and Bob Saget Round-Up!

Check out these informative, and dare I say, fun things?

Bad night for Ponaganset, good night for Doyles. Freshman Dan Doyle scored 13 points for Narragansett against Ponaganset in last night’s varsity boys’ basketball game, leading the Mariners in scoring. Unfortunately for Ponaganset, Doyle’s scoring alone would have been enough for the Mariners, but he had eight other teammates who scored, including his brother Pat, the second-leading scorer with 10. Narragansett won 57-11, which is not a typo – Read the box score from The Providence Journal here. The Mariners are 4-2 overall, and 2-2 in Division II-South. They play at Central Falls 7 p.m. Friday.

Not to jinx them or anything… If you couldn’t make it to last night’s boys’ basketball blowout, maybe girls’ basketball tonight is more your speed? The girls’ basketball team travels to Warwick for a game with Toll Gate. The Mariners are 5-2 overall, with the only losses to Division I North Kingstown. Toll Gate is 0-7 overall, and losing games by an average of 20 points. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Competitive “Marco Polo” should be a high school sport. But it’s not, and instead, please root for the Narragansett girls’ swimming team today instead. The Mariners swim against Prout 4:30 p.m. at the Tootell Aquatic Center at the University of Rhode Island. According to RIIL standings, the Mariners are 0-1 so far this year, since results haven’t been reported from several meets. Seniors on this year’s team include Danielle Budaj, Liz Castro, Ellis Dansereau, Annie Hall, Jackie Harig, Holly McConnell, Angelica and Bianca Spinazzola, and Courtney Sutherland.

“Okay, what I need you to do is to run, and then, run faster.” – Track advice from Bob Saget during a Saturday Night Live skit. The boys’ indoor track team has a meet tonight up in Providence. The first events are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. Seniors on the roster are Tyler Burnell, Deveron Gordon, Aaron Libman and Steve Smith.

Looking ahead: Girls’ indoor track! The girls will be competing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. Now that you know, you really have no excuse for missing it. The only senior on the roster is Samantha Sabetti, who transferred over from the basketball team. Juniors on the team include Marina Carosella, Gabby Smith and Jessica Trautman.
