5 THINGS: There Are No Sports Today
If you dislike when sporting events are included in Five Things, then congrats! This is the edition for you, except that not much else is happening.

Here are the Five Things for Monday, January 23, 2012:
There are no sports today, or rather, much of anything. According to the RIIL, there are no sporting events today, and the middle school girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are also done with their respective seasons. Frankly, our events calendar for today is also pretty sparse, so uh, if we’re missing something, let us know in the comments. As a result, we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit for this Five Things, so please don’t judge.
“I vant your blood!” One thing you can do today, and many other days of the week, is to at the South County Donor Center of the Rhode Island Blood Center on Woodruff Avenue. It’s near Rite Aid and next to Subway, where my buddies Steve and Steve work. (So when I’m there, the restaurant is populated by Steve, Steve and Steve. If only Steve McKanna or Steve Smith also stopped by, then we’d make for an unbeatable poker hand. But I digress.) To meet the daily needs of Rhode Islanders, about 240 to 280 pints of blood is needed, so why not do your part Monday?

Sign up for FREE Everbridge alert notifications! In case you are unawares – and many of you are – the town has a free phone and computer alert system for things like power outages, parking bans and other issues. You can click the “Citizen Alert” button on the left of the town’s website, or if you’re feeling lazy, just click here. Narragansett Police Dispatcher Chris McGrath and Narragansett Fire Chief James Cotter are trying to get the word out about this and other EMS services in the coming weeks. While all of the town’s landlines are automatically included in the Everbridge system, you have to opt in if you have a cell phone, like every other adult human being nowadays.
Happy birthday, TAT! Tiffani-Amber Thiessen is now credited on White Collar and other shows as just Tiffani Thiessen, but please, she has no chance of ever distancing herself from the TAT initials or her past identity as Kelly Kapowski on Saved By The Bell. This is hard to believe, because she has one of those faces that refuses to age, but TAT is now 37. She’s also from Long Beach, home to such ruffians like Snoop Dogg, Sublime and Billie Jean King.

Buy an umbrella. It’s supposed to rain Monday night. (Sorry, I’m out of pithy comments. Insert you own smart aleck remark here.)
