5 THINGS: Traffic Delays, de Gaulle and Living Wilde

Check out highlights from our events calendar, and other random info, in today's Five Things.

Here are there (more than) Five Things for Tuesday, October 16, 2012:

“How can you govern a country which has 246 varieties of cheese?” – Charles de Gaulle. Here are today’s government meetings:

  • The South Kingstown Canvassing Authority meets at 8:30 a.m. in the town hall’s council chambers.
  • The Narragansett Board of Canvassers meets at 9 a.m. in the large boardroom of the town hall.
  • The Narragansett Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. in the large boardroom of the town hall.
  • The Towers Committee meets at 7 p.m. at the Towers.

Mmm, fresh produce. The Marina Park farmers’ market is at 2 p.m.

Learn to right gooder. There is a five-week writing workshop with professor Nancy Shuster at Peace Dale Library at 2 p.m. (Obviously, it’s one class per week, not five weeks in one day in Quantum Leap fashion.)

Expect delays on Route 138 in North Kingstown on Thursday. According to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Route 138 eastbound and westbound, at the Route 1A exit, will have construction work on the right shoulder from 10 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s World Food Day. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).

Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Now’s not the time to lose one’s head, especially over cake. On this day in 1793, Marie Antoinette was beheaded.

“It is better to be beautiful than to be good. But… It is better to be good than to be ugly.” Happy birthday to Oscar Wilde!
