5 THINGS: Why You Wanna Go And Do That, That, That, That and That?

Got nothing to do Friday and this weekend? Then check out these Five Things that you can go and do.

Here are the Five Things for Friday, January 6, 2012, and the weekend:

OH MY GOD YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED! If you’re excited as I am about it, then you should head on down to the Towers this weekend. The fifth annual is being held there 11 a.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $15 at the door, cash or check. For more information, call 789-4422, or visit South County Weddings.

Girls’ basketball looking to remain undefeated in league play. And it is highly likely they will stay undefeated, since they’re hosting Warwick Vets at 7 p.m. tonight. Vets is 0-4 in Division II play, and 1-7 overall. Narragansett is 6-2 overall, and 4-0 in Division II after a 61-38 thumping of Toll Gate on Wednesday.

On the road again – Narragansett teams are all on the road again. Willie Nelson would approve the various Mariners’ team schedules today, since three of them are essentially on the road. Girls’ swimming (0-2 Division I) is at Cumberland High School (0-0) for a 4 p.m. meet. Boys’ basketball (4-2, 2-2 Division II-South) is at Central Falls (3-3, 3-1 Division II-North) for a 7 p.m. game. And girls’ hockey (1-4-1, 1-4 DeCosta League) is technically home, but playing at the West Warwick Civic Center against La Salle (6-1, 6-1 Emma League) at 8 p.m.

On the road again – Redux. And then on Saturday, there is more road action! Girls’ hockey travels to Smithfield (0-8, 0-8 DeCosta Division) for a 7 p.m. game. Boys’ basketball plays Stonington at Wheeler High School in North Stonington at 7 p.m. Individuals from the boys’ wrestling team are at Westerly High School for the Chad Antoch Wrestling Tournament at 10 a.m., and there is also an individual meet at the University of Rhode Island for some girls’ and boys’ indoor track members. And finally, one team is home this weekend, although there isn’t much of an advantage – Boys’ ice hockey (0-8, 0-8 Division II-South) hosts Prout (6-2-2, 6-2-2 Division II-South) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Boss Ice Arena at URI, a sort of home game for both teams.

The Rams are actually winning some games now. Just in time too, as conference play for URI starts 7 p.m. Saturday. The Rams (3-12) host Richmond (9-7, 0-1 Atlantic 10), another team that has struggled here and there in the early going. Since the dismissal of Jamal Wilson, transfers Billy Baron and Andre Malone becoming eligible, and a at the hands of Providence College, the Rams have been playing better. They have managed to win two of their last three, albeit against the weaker squads of Boston College and James Madison. On Saturday night, we will be there at the Ryan Center with a live blog, followed up by video of the press conferences after the game.
