Boy Scouts Present Flag from Afghanistan to Council

The flag flew over a United States base in Afghanistan.

At Monday night’s meeting of the Narragansett Town Council, Boy Scout Troop 1 presented town officials with an American flag that flew over a military base in Afghanistan.

Troop Leader Gary Tudino read a short statement, before he and his troop gave the flag to Narragansett Town Council President Glenna Hagopian. (See the attached video.)

The flag was given to the scouts and the Narragansett Lions in return for care packages sent to the troops. The flag will be displayed in town hall.

Scouts will be dropping off collection bags to Narragansett residents on Saturday, Oct. 29 and will be picking them up on Saturday, Nov. 5. Last year, the troop collected more than a thousand pounds of canned goods to help out families in need across the State.

Troop 1 is also having their Second Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser to offset the cost of camping trips.

The 32 boys in the troop are busy with monthly camping trips, as well as the High Adventure Patrol for scouts 14 and above take more extreme trips. They have built igloos and slept in them, gone on 50-mile canoe trips, and experienced downhill skiing. This is an exciting and healthy experience for the boys in a supportive environment.

Last year was our first attempt to have a big dinner fundraiser in the community and we rocked, with a full house of more than 180 people attending the dinner and winning numerous raffle prizes.  We hope you will join us again this year for the evening at the Elk’s Club (behind the Larchwood Inn) in Wakefield on Wednesday, Nov. 9. We also accept any raffle item or donation you can afford.

All are welcome to join us the night of the event and meet a great group of dedicated and adventuresome boys. Please contact us to reserve your dinner tickets.
