Experience Shines at Annual Powerpuff Games [Video]
The seniors and juniors both coast in their games Sunday night under the lights at Narragansett Elementary School.
The seniors and juniors of Narragansett High School taught their younger cohorts a thing or two about flag football on Sunday night, as both classes had two-touchdown wins against the opponents.
Seniors 12, Sophomores 0
In a surprisingly physical showcase game, the seniors beat the sophomore 12-0, thanks to long sweeps and counter runs by Raven Radkiewich. She scored on an end-around from about 30 yards out, and setup a quarterback sneak by Samantha Sabetti.

Radkiewich, a cheerleader and track star, said she picked up a few things from watching the Mariners play on Fridays and Saturdays. If anything, the style of the game – flag football – wasn’t to her liking.
“I wish it wasn’t flag at all,” she said, laughing a bit. The senior contributed to the physical play of the game by simply running over or through defenders, instead of trying to avoid them.

She said she watched the juniors play before her own game, and said “they played a good game.” The final between the two teams will take place Friday on Field Day at the high school.
The sophomores came close to scoring on their first drive of the game, but were turned away at the goal line. Alicia Perry did the bulk of the running, with Emily McGreen taking a few handoffs as well. Perry also picked off a pass from Sabetti in the second half.
Juniors 18, Freshmen 8
In the opener, the freshmen at one point held an 8-6 lead, but they had no answer for Jessica Trautman.
The junior cross-country and lacrosse player scored three touchdowns, mostly darting and weaving through freshmen defenders. The highlight was a 40-yard touchdown on a reverse.
Trautman said she didn’t really play football, outside of her two previous powerpuff games. She was also rooting against the seniors – but solely because the sophomores were smaller and thus easier to beat.
Eliza DeCubellis served as the quarterback for the juniors, and Gabby Smith also had several good runs and plays on defense. DeCubellis had a touchdown pass to Trautman on a screen play.
For the freshmen, Abby McKanna showed that she could be a force in the game for years to come. Despite attracting double coverage at times, she still ran for a touchdown.
Brooke McGreen also intercepted a pass, and Erica Gaudlap had a reverse for a long gain. Mackenzie Davis had a two-point conversion.
