Where Does RI Rank For Charity?
The Ocean State is not the nicest, according to a new study from WalletHub.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — Rhode Island has come up one notch short of the most Scrooge-like state in the nation. According to WalletHub, the personal finance experts, the Ocean State ranks 49th out of the 50 states for charity, based on both the amount of money and time donated.
Rhode Island was 50th for volunteering time. It ranked 31st for giving, and did well in just one category: percentage of the population who donate money.
Overall, the state won a red dot as one of the richest and least charitable in the country.

In the important category of food, Rhode Islanders turned in one of the lowest percentages nationwide for collecting or distributing food. It ranked 48th; Massachusetts, Colorado and Hawaii did worse.

The kindest states? Utah, Maryland, Minnesota, Wyoming and Wisconsin. None of the New England states broke into the top 10. Connecticut did the best with an overall rank of 11.
