Happy Father’s Day!

Share your memories of your dad with us.

This past week, we’ve been asking for your memories of your father – good or bad, funny or sad, whimsical or serious – for this column. We got a couple responses, which we’ve printed below.

You still have time to share if you’d like! You can leave your story in the comments, or e-mail them to Stephen.greenwell@patch.com.

From Cheryl Butler: I've been married for nearly 24 years and an important part of that marriage (yes, in-laws are an important part!) is my relationship with my mother and father-in-law!

My father-in-law, Alan Butler, is 86 years young and one of the most wonderful, kind and decent role models this community could ever ask for.  Not only is he a true gentleman, he has a great sense of humor.

A couple of weeks ago, he attended two of our kid's baseball games (ugh, did someone say baseball!  ha ha). The first was at .

He was propped up in all his glory in his beach chair (one on stilts!) and without warning, tumbled over. He was the football coach at South Kingstown High school for many years and taught history there as well. We can never go anyplace without a former student of his coming over to shake his hand and talk about "the good old days."

Well, a former student was at Old Mountain Field the day he toppled over, and the student joked and said, "Mr. Butler, you just can't go rolling around on the field just because you feel like it!"

It really broke the ice – my mother-in-law and I are still laughing. But he took it in stride and went along with it.  He has integrity, true character and is one of the best joke tellers in these parts!

I am proud to call him my father-in-law, and even better, our eight children get to call him grandpa!
