Massachusetts Man Arrested for Felony Assault with Knife
A Quincy man is charged with using a knife against a housemate while intoxicated.

James Steven O’Leary, 49, of 6 Miles Drive, Quincy, MA, was arrested at about 12:06 a.m. on Oct. 4 and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to police, they received a report of an assault with a knife at a home on Point Judith Road. When they arrived on scene, they said a 31-year-old man was there, with his right hand covered in blood. The man told police that O’Leary had stabbed him during an argument.
Police said that O’Leary was sitting at the kitchen table, eating potato chips out of a blue cup. According to police, he appeared to be highly intoxicated, and according to other witnesses, he had also been taking pills throughout the day.

When the victim was asked if he wanted to press charges, he told police, “Hell yeah I do, this **** is messed up. I was just trying to help this dude out and he attacks me.”
According to police, the argument started over food stamps – O’Leary said he was upset because the victim used all of them, as opposed to just half. O’Leary told police that he and the victim were friends from prison.

Police said that at about 2:30 a.m., O’Leary had to be transported to South County Hospital because of a suspected overdose. After about two hours of treatment, his condition was determined as stable, and he was transported back to police headquarters.
O’Leary was arraigned on Oct. 5 and released. He is scheduled for felony screening on Nov. 15.
