Police said an officer on patrol on Bridgetown Road near Shore Drive saw a Toyota Camry traveling at a high rate of speed. The car was clocked at 35 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone, and a traffic stop was made.

According to police, the officer immediately recognized Wright, the passenger in the car, from past arrests. The officer knew there was a warrant out for his arrest and took him into custody without incident. The driver, a 41-year-old Narragansett woman, was issued a speeding ticket and allowed to leave the scene.

Police said that during questioning about the breaking and entering charges, Wright told them it was him. According to police, Wright told them that he went into the building via a broken window in the garage, and took $50 and a pack of Newport cigarettes.

According to Narragansett police reports, Wright was arraigned on Sept. 3 as a probation violator due to previous offenses. He was given $5,000 surety bail, which he did not post. As a result, he was transported to the ACI.

According to online court records, Wright has more than 20 arrests, dating back to 1988. At that time, he pleaded no contest to a Providence police charge of carrying a pistol without a license, and he was sentenced to two years at the ACI.

In the years since, Wright has been arrested on a variety of assault, disorderly conduct and drug charges, and served 30 day to 18-month sentences for each.

Wright is due back in court on Oct. 11 for felony screening for the breaking and entering charge.
