Narragansett Man Charged With Assaulting Trooper: Logan

A problem with lost luggage at Logan on Tuesday night ended with a Narragansett man's arrest, the Suffolk County DA's office said.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — Kevin Luczak, 28, of Narragansett, was arraigned Wednesday in East Boston Municipal Court in connection with an assault on a state trooper at Logan International Airport. According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, he was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest. Luczak was released on $500 bail. He is due back in court May 7.

The assault happened around 11:30 Tuesday night.

Massachusetts state police said a Delta supervisor called them about an incident with a man on an incoming flight. The trooper went to the lost baggage claim area and overheard Luczak saying he was on his way home from Australia and was making a claim for lost baggage. Then he told the Delta representative to "forget about it" because his lost bag contained only some clothes.

The trooper then met the Delta supervisor outside the claim office. She pointed out Luczak and said he was the man involved in the incident earlier. Luczak then walked over to the trooper, stood about two feet away and sprayed liquid in the trooper's eyes. The trooper attempted to handcuff him, but a fight started. At one point, the trooper was on his back on the moving baggage carousel, while Luczak attempted to punch him. Luczak ran away but was finally subdued by the trooper and two airport staffers, a Massport public information rep and a Delta baggage rep.

He was taken to a jail cell and treated for a bloody nose. Bail was set at $1,000.
