Narragansett Police Log: April 11 and 12, 2012

A Narragansett man racks up more assault warrants, and police deal with URI students and fake IDs.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Narragansett Man Arrested for Assault Charges Again

Scott F. Verrecchia, 27, of 121 Winterberry Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 7:46 p.m. on April 11.

According to police, they received an anonymous tip that Verrecchia was visiting a family member’s home. When they arrived at the home, he was arrested without incident.

Police said Verrecchia had two warrants out for his arrest, one from their department for charges on April 5, and one from Central Falls Police for an assault case there on April 9. He could not come up with bail money, and he was transported to the ACI.

URI Student Arrested for Possession of Marijuana

Luis Polanco, 19, of 16 Bodell Ave., Apt. #3, Providence, was arrested at about 12:29 a.m. on April 11 and charged with possession of marijuana. Police said he is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, while patrolling traffic on Point Judith Road an officer saw a dark-colored Nissan with a defective rear plate light. A traffic stop was made near Sunset Farm.

Police said the smell of marijuana was emanating strongly from the car. The driver consented to a search of the car, at which point police determined the smell was coming from the trunk.

According to police, two backpacks were in the trunk of the car. The driver and one of his five passengers – Polanco – claimed that they each owned one of the backpacks.

It was determined that Polanco’s backpack had a small bag of marijuana in it. At that point, he allegedly told police, “Oh, I forgot that was in there.” He was arrested, transported to headquarters for arraignment, and released at 1:10 a.m.

The driver was cited for overload of a vehicle, given the five passengers, and warned for the defective plate light and a too-dark tint on the license plate cover.

URI Student Cited for Public Urination

Christopher W. Coons, 20, of 55 Bristol Road, Narragansett, was cited at about 1:40 a.m. on April 11 and charged with public urination. Police said Coons is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer was conducting a building check of Stop and Shop at about 1:30 a.m. when he saw a car pull into a parking spot. The driver – Coons – got out of the car and started to urinate by the side of it.

Police cited Coons for public urination. Police noted that Coons refused to sign the summons.

Five URI Students Cited for Misuse of ID

According to police, five University of Rhode Island students were cited for misuse of ID at separate checks at the Bon Vue Inn on the night of April 12.

  • Police said Brittany R. Montague, 20, of 22 Summit Road, Narragansett, attempted to use the real Connecticut license of another woman at about 9:58 p.m. According to police, Montague’s signature in the log book did not match the license signature.
  • Police said Dana M. Demers, 19, of 29 Phenix Ridge Drive, Cranston, attempted to use a fake Rhode Island license at about 10 p.m.
  • Police said Prashil Deepak Patel, 20, of Eldridge Hall at the University of Rhode Island, attempted to use the real Maryland license of another man at about 10:36 p.m. Police said that Patel’s license stated he was 6-feet-tall, when Patel was about 5’1”.
  • Police said Eve Cohen, 19, of 67 Upper College Road, Kingston, attempted to use a fake New Jersey license at about 10:34 p.m.
  • Police said Peyton Albanese, 19, of 12 Saint James Road, Narragansett, attempted to use a fake Rhode Island license at about 10:30 p.m.

According to police, all five admitted to the violations after questioning.

Death Reported on Manor Drive

At about 9:37 a.m. on April 11, police received a report of a death of a 69-year-old man at a Manor Drive home.

Police said that a man told a worker at Cumberland Farms that his friend had passed away. When police interview the man, he said he normally had tea with the 69-year-old man each morning, but he became concerned when he didn’t come to the door today.

The man told police he got inside the home, and noticed him slumped over in the bathroom. He then went to notify police via the convenience store, since he did not have a cell phone.

According to police, there appeared to be no foul play. Family members and friends told police that the man had been in poor health for several years. The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy as a precaution.
