Rapper Drake Causes Citation for Narragansett Man
Paul D. Johnson, 29, of 30 Clara Lane, Narragansett, was cited at about 7:16 p.m. on April 13 for excessive vehicular noise.
According to police, while a patrolman and sergeant were speaking with one another inside at headquarters, they heard loud music and bass coming from the parking lot.
Police said the patrolman went to the back parking lot, where he saw a dark colored SUV with the windows down and the car stereo playing loud. There was no driver in the car, but a check of the plates revealed Johnson as the owner.
According to police, Johnson returned a few moments later. When asked what he was doing, police said Johnson requested a ride to the Coast Guard House, so that he could apologize and get his no-trespass order lifted.
When police asked him why he had left his SUV unattended with the loud stereo and windows down, Johnson allegedly told them, “Drake told me to.” When he was asked who Drake was, he told police, “The music.”
Johnson was issued a citation for the loud stereo and told to leave the area.
Earlier in the day, a different shift of officers had dealt with a complaint from a family member of Johnson’s, stating that he had removed part of a fence in order to drive his Land Rover.
However, the family member did not want to press charges, and police noted that Johnson did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Woman Withdraws Theft Complaint Against Narragansett Man
A 21-year-old Narragansett woman withdrew a larceny complaint against Joshua A. Sousa, 23, of 37 Continental St., Apt. #B, Narragansett, after her iPad reappeared on her front steps.
According to police, at about 11:14 p.m. on April 13 they received a report of a stolen iPad from a Newport Lane home. The woman told police that she suspected Sousa or one of his friends had taken the device.
Using an online application, the woman was able to trace the iPad to a Providence address. However, Providence police were unable to respond at that time.
At about 2:20 p.m. on April 14, the woman called police and told them that the iPad was now at 48 Howe Street in Cumberland, and that she believed Sousa had stolen it. Narragansett police contacted Cumberland police, who confirmed that they had past contact with Sousa and at that time his address was 48 Howe Street.
A Cumberland police officer told Narragansett police that he spoke with Sousa’s sister at the home, and then Sousa over the phone. The officer said that Sousa claimed to have purchase the iPad from a friend in Spain named Raphael. The Cumberland officer told Sousa to contact Narragansett police.
Narragansett police noted that Sousa never contacted them, but at 3:40 p.m., the woman called to say that her iPad had “appeared on her front step” and that she no longer wished to press charges. No charges were filed as a result.
Man Cited for Disorderly Conduct at Out-Of-Control Greenbrier Road Party
At about 11:34 p.m. on April 13, police received a report of a loud party in the area of Sewell and Gaspee. A check of the area revealed that the party was nearby at 54 Greenbrier Road.
According to police, about 100 people were at the party, with 10 to 15 cars illegally parked. Police said empty beer bottles and cans were in the yard and on side streets.
Police said that while breaking the party up, a fight was occurring on the second floor. According to police, after separating three to four men, they then had to cite another man for attempting to incite the others into fighting again.
Police said after breaking up the fight, Eugene Joseph Astarita, 23, of 39 East 85th St., New York, NY, began to scream violently. He then took his t-shirt off “in a very violent and aggressive manner” and attempted to go toward the group of people police had just stopped from fighting.
As a result, police cited Astarita for disorderly conduct and removed him from the scene. Police noted he is a student at the University of Rhode Island.
Police said the renters had difficulty clearing the party, and noted in reports that “they had no control of the people at party.” The tenants were identified as Michael G. Tait, 21, Justin T. Krute, 22, and Kyle C. Letourneau, 23. All signed the notice of public nuisance form.
