Narragansett Police Log: April 2, 3, 4 and 5, 2012

Police use a taser to prevent an allegedly suicidal man from hurting himself.

Alleged Domestic Incident Leads to Four Misdemeanor Charges Against Narragansett Man

Scott F. Verrecchia, 27, of 121 Winterberry Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 11:16 p.m. on April 5 and charged with domestic disorderly conduct, domestic vandalism, simple assault and resisting arrest.

According to police, they received a report from a family member that Verrecchia had a knife and was threatening to hurt himself. While en route, the caller told a police dispatcher that they had managed to get the knife away from Verrecchia, but he was destroying things in the basement.

Police said when they arrived, Verrecchia was sitting on a couch. When asked to stand up so that he could be checked for weapons, police said Verrecchia refused, and said, “No, why should I get up?”

According to police, at that point they attempted to restrain Verrecchia, who fought back, punched an officer in the face and threw a television remote. Police said they then used a taser to subdue Verrecchia and arrest him.

Police said two witnesses at the scene claimed that Verrecchia had become upset and threatened to harm himself. According to police, he was transported to a mental health facility for treatment at 12:45 a.m. on April 6.

A family member told police that they believed Verrecchia was using illegal narcotics again. Police noted that Verrecchia had past arrests related to drug offenses.

South Kingstown Man Arrested for Warrant

Ryan J. Early, 27, of 167 Allen Ave., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 5:16 p.m. on April 4.

Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was out for his arrest for failing to appear at a court hearing related to a South Kingstown police charge for driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer familiar with Early from past contact with the police department saw him traveling in a black GMC Yukon on Boston Neck Road near Sprague Bridge. The officer knew a warrant was out for his arrest, and made a traffic stop on Narragansett Avenue near Mansion Avenue.

Police said the officer confirmed Early’s identity and the warrant for his arrest, and took him into custody without incident. He was arraigned before a justice of the peace at 7:10 p.m. and released.

URI Student Cited For Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor

Bradley J. Grimshaw, 18, of 12 Soneric Lane, Richmond, was cited at about 9:10 p.m. on April 5 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Grimshaw is a student at the University of Rhode Island, according to their online student directory.

According to police, an officer saw a 2000 Nissan driven by Grimshaw with an expired registration sticker on the rear license plate. The officer also noted that it was traveling at 56 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone on Point Judith Road.

A traffic stop was made on Sand Hill Cove Road. Police noted that the car was seen leaving the parking lot of a liquor store on Point Judith Road, and when asked if he had any alcohol in the car, Grimshaw told officers there was in the trunk.

Police said a check of Grimshaw’s ID confirmed that he was under 21. A 12-pack of Bass ale, a 12-pack of Magic Hat beer and a small bottle of Jameson whiskey were confiscated and disposed of.

Grimshaw was issued a citation for transportation of alcohol by a minor. A check of the car’s registration revealed that it was up to date.

Attleboro Man Arrested for Municipal Court Warrant, Released After Paying Fine

Todd M. Alicea, 21, of 196 Knight Ave., Attleboro, MA, was arrested at about 7:40 p.m. on April 4.

Police said a Municipal Court warrant was out for Alicea’s arrest related to a fighting / disorderly conduct charge on July 7, 2011.

According to police, Alicea was being held at the ACI in Cranston for an unrelated offense. An officer picked him up, and he was arraigned and released after paying a $200 fine at 9 p.m.
