Narragansett Police Log: April 30, 2011

Underage Alcohol Possession Violations

  • David G. Rivera, 18, of 297 Suburban Ave., Fairfield, CT, was cited at about 12:40 a.m. on April 30 for unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor. Police reports noted that Rivera is a URI student. According to police, while breaking up a loud party at 20 Lincoln Way, they saw Rivera carrying a bottle of Green Apple Smirnoff vodka. A background check revealed that he was not 21.
  • Michael F. Minahan, 20, of 24 Ashton Lane, Narragansett, was cited at about 1:30 a.m. on April 30 for unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor. Police reports noted that Minahan is a URI student. According to police, an officer saw Minahan walking down Burnside Avenue with a bottle of Andre peach passion wine and a 50-mL bottle of Christian Brothers brandy. A background check revealed that Minahan was underage.

Loud Party Complaints

  • At about 12:40 a.m. on April 30, police received a report of a loud party at 20 Lincoln Way. According to police, 75 to 80 people were in the rear yard, with an additional 70 to 75 inside the house. Police said about 25 to 30 cars were illegally parked, and guests continued to yell and scream as they walked down side streets after the party was broken up. Police said the tenants were [Name Removed] and [Name Removed], 22, and [Name Removed] and [Name Removed], 21. [Name Removed], [Name Removed] and [Name Removed] are URI students, according to URI’s online database. The home is owned by [Name Removed], according to online town property records.
  • At about 7:40 p.m. on April 30, police received a report of a loud party at 6 Ashton Lane. According to police, about 50 to 60 people were at the party, which had a DJ, people playing volleyball and a bounce house. Police noted that because of the time of day, the renters were just asked to turn the music down, and the party was not broken up. Police said there were no parking violations.
  • At about 11:21 p.m. on April 30, police received a report of a loud party at 22 Westmoreland St. According to police, about 25 to 30 people were at the house, and loud noise could be heard from a stereo and people talking in the backyard. Police asked the renters – Ashley Coviello and Sam M. Leo, 23, and Shannon M. Read and Justin A. Scarpulla, 22 – to break up the party, which they did without incident. All four are URI students, and the property is managed by Anne O’Brien Realty.

Sick Skunk Silenced

At about 8 a.m. on April 30, police received a report of a skunk on South Pier Road. An animal control officer responded, determined the skunk was sick and a patrolman shot the skunk to euthanize it. According to a report by a police lieutenant, the weapon discharge was justified.

Lost Wallet Found Outside Pier Liquors

At about 5:07 p.m. on April 30, police received a report of a found wallet. A 35-year-old Narragansett woman said she found a Vera Bradley designer wallet outside of Pier Liquors. The wallet was placed in an evidence box by police.
