Narragansett Police Log: January 1, 2012
A Narragansett teen trying to fight back against officers gets pepper spray to the face, and in a separate incident, passengers try to stash alcohol in a yard following an accident.

Narragansett Teen Arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Simple Assault; Police Cap Stun Man
Kyle N. Konopelko, 18, of 31 Banfield Lane, Narragansett, was arrested at about 3:49 p.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and simple assault.

According to police, they received a report of a man – later identified as Konopelko – threatening a 34-year-old Portsmouth woman with a pair of brass knuckles.
The woman told police that while driving down What Cheer Road, Konopelko was in the middle of the road, blocking the passage of her car. When she honked at him, she told police he got angry and swore at her.

According to police, the woman told them that she parked her car at her home, which was in view of Konopelko. She told police that he then approached her car and tapped the hood with a pair of brass knuckles. The woman said he then left, and she watched him enter a duplex on Riverside Court.
Police said it took several attempts to contact the tenants there until someone answered the door. At the urging of one of the tenants, a group of four or five people finally came outside.
According to police, all the members of the group denied having any words with a motorist. However, the woman and her husband both identified Konopelko as the person.
Police said that as they attempted to arrest Konopelko, he immediately and repeatedly resisted. According to police, they told him that if he kept resisting, they would be forced to cap stun him, but he ignored the warning.
As a result, police use a cap stun on Konopelko’s face. Police said he stopped resisting at that point and was arrested. According to police, throughout his arrest and booking Konopelko swore at them and was uncooperative.
Konopelko was issued a Fourth Division District Court summons and released at 4:30 p.m. Police provided him with a ride back to Riverside Court. According to police, no brass knuckles were found on Konopelko’s person or in the immediate area of his arrest.
West Warwick Teen Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor; Passengers Try to Hide Alcohol in Bushes
David M. Nicholson, 18, of 74 Clyde St., West Warwick, was cited at about 1:08 a.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.
According to police, they received a call from a homeowner on Wolcott Avenue reporting a two-car motor vehicle accident. The caller said that a car had struck her house and the occupants were now trying to hide bottles of alcohol in the bushes.
Police said they spoke with Nicholson, who said he was the driver of the vehicle, a grey Audi A6. He told police there were only minor injuries, namely, a cut to the cheek of a passenger.
Police noted that the trunk of the Audi was open, and visible were a bottle of Sailor Jerry’s rum and two bottles of Angry Orchard Hard Cider. According to police, several bottles of Blue Moon beer and a bottle of Tito’s Vodka were also found on the lawn of the Wolcott Avenue home.
Police interviewed the driver of the second vehicle, a 21-year-old Narragansett woman.
She admitted that she didn’t come to a complete stop at the intersection of Wolcott and Middle Avenue, and as a result, Nicholson struck her car and continued on to hit the Wolcott Avenue home.
Nicholson’s car was towed from the scene, and he was issued a citation for transportation of alcohol by a minor. The driver of the other car was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign. According to police, there was a 24-year-old Coventry resident in Nicholson’s car.
URI Student, Portsmouth Teen Charged with Underage Possession of Alcohol
Nicholas T. Hunt, 19, of 128 Fischer Circle, Portsmouth, was cited at about 12:10 a.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor. Hunt is a student at the University of Rhode Island.
According to police, an officer patrolling on Angell Road saw Hunt walking with a can of Narragansett Beer in his hand. Police said Hunt dropped the can on the ground as they approached him.
A background check revealed that Hunt was underage. He was issued a municipal court summons for Feb. 2 and released without incident. The beer can was disposed of.
