According to police, on Jan. 9 they received a larceny complaint from a 70-year-old woman at headquarters. The woman told them that her son and his girlfriend – Loranger – had taken money from her bank account without her permission on four occasions.

Police said they contacted the bank, and using security footage, confirmed that on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29, Loranger withdrew money from an ATM.

Police said on Jan. 3, a man is seen on security footage withdrawing money, but his face is covered, and there was no footage available for a second withdrawal on Jan. 3.

The four withdrawals totaled $583.50.

According to police, they were not able to contact Loranger on Jan. 9, but found her at her home at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 to interview her. She insisted that she had permission from the victim in the case to withdraw the money. Police asked her to come to headquarters later that day to make a formal statement.

Police said that at 4:05 p.m., they received a call from the nursing aid of the victim. The aid told them that the victim’s son – Loranger’s boyfriend – had just called, “yelling and screaming” about the money. Police confirmed with the victim that she had not given Loranger permission to take any money out on her behalf.

At about 4:27 p.m., Loranger came to police headquarters to make a formal statement. She told police that she made a withdrawal on Dec. 28 at the request of the victim. She told police that she bought some cigarettes with the money, and then gave the remaining cash, the ATM card and several of the cigarettes to the victim.

Loranger told police that the victim asked her to do the same thing on Dec. 29. According to police, Loranger denied using the card after that point, and said her boyfriend – the victim’s son – did not use the card either.

Based on these statements, Loranger was arrested and charged with improper computer access – a felony – and obtaining money under false pretenses. She and her boyfriend were also issued a no trespass order for the victim’s property.

No other arrests have been made in regards to the two other unauthorized withdrawals.

Narragansett Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana

David Coletta, 20, of 94 Conanicus Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 11:57 p.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic clocked a black Toyota Scion driven by Coletta at 42 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone on Boston Neck Road. A traffic stop was made near Conanicus Road.

Police said that during the stop, the smell of marijuana was present inside the car. When asked if they had smoked this evening, Coletta allegedly told police, “Yes, we are on our way back from a concert in Providence and we smoked earlier in the car.”

At first, police said Coletta claimed to have smoked all the marijuana. However, when police were about to search the car and again asked him if there was any left, he directed them to a black jar in the glove compartment.

Police searched the jar and said there was a small bag of marijuana, which Coletta told them was his. As a result, he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

Coletta gave permission for a passenger in the car, a 21-year-old Narragansett man, to drive it home for him. Coletta was also issued a ticket for speeding. He was released at 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 13 and issued a Fourth Division District Court date of Jan. 24.
