According to police, they asked the driver – later identified as Duckworth – for his license, registration and insurance card. Police said he looked at them with a blank stare and glassy eyes, and did not retrieve any of the items.
When asked by police where he was coming from, police said Duckworth mumbled and told them Stop and Shop. Police said that at this point, they noticed an overwhelming smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, and also noted that the passenger – a 21-year-old South Kingstown man – had a case of Bud Light by his feet.
According to police, they asked Duckworth to exit the car for a search. Police said that when questioned, he told an officer that he had “a little bit of smoke in my pocket.”
Police said that during the search, Duckworth repeatedly ignored instructions to keep his hands on his head, telling an officer, “I’m not doing that.” According to police, as they attempted to search his pockets, he broke free from their grasp and attempted to run.
As a result, Duckworth was tackled to the ground and arrested. Police said that following his arrest, he repeatedly banged his head on the cruiser’s divider, despite requests by the officers to stop.
Duckworth was processed at police headquarters and released at about 7:20 p.m. He was issued a Fourth Division District Court date for Jan. 31, and also cited for speeding.

20-Year-Old URI Student Arrested for Vandalism at Bar
Taylor E. Garland, 20, of 4 Green Kinyon Driftway, Narragansett, was arrested at about 1:24 a.m. on Jan. 22 and charged with vandalism. Police said Garland is a student at the University of Rhode Island.
According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road near Houston Avenue saw one man running after another. From past contacts, the officer knew that the man doing the chasing was a bouncer at a nearby bar, and he activated his emergency lights.
Police said based on interviews with the bouncer and several other employees, the man he was chasing – identified as Garland – was accused of breaking a glass panel on the main entrance of the bar.
When questioned by police, Garland immediately accepted fault, telling them, “I was just trying to hit the wood of the door, I missed and hit the glass.”
From police reports, it is unclear if Garland was a patron or just passing by the bar. Employees at the bar put the cost of the glass at $150.
Garland was arrested and charged with vandalism. He was issued a Fourth Division District Court date of Jan. 31, and released at 3:09 a.m.
