Narragansett Police Log: January 24, 2012

A Saunderstown woman is charged with possession of marijuana, and a pair of men are arrested for minor offenses during a traffic stop.

Saunderstown Woman Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Alyssa S. D’Antona, 23, of 238 Westmoreland Lane, Saunderstown, was arrested at about 8:56 p.m. on Jan. 24 and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, a pair of officers in a patrol car spotted a Subaru station wagon traveling at a high rate of speed on Point Judith Road near Mariner Square. Police said radar revealed the car was traveling 48 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone.

As a result, a traffic stop was made on Point Judith Road near the Shell station. According to one officer, flakes of marijuana could be seen on the front passenger seat, which was unoccupied.

When asked if she had any marijuana in the car, police said D’Antona handed them a small baggie from the center console. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Police said D’Antona was processed and released at 9 p.m. She was issued a Februrary 7 date for Fourth Division District Court, and also cited for speeding. A friend was allowed to drive her car from the scene.

Traffic Stop Nets Two Arrests

According to police, a pair of men were arrested following a traffic stop at about 11:38 p.m. on Jan. 24.

  • Michael D. Gaudet, 29, of 24 Craig Road, Warwick, was charged with driving with a suspended license.
  • Kevin R. Peterson, 30, of 31 Lear Drive, Coventry, was arrested for an outstanding Third Division District Court warrant. Information about his warrant was unavailable.

Police said an officer patrolling Point Judith Road noted a silver sedan with a defective rear license plate. As a result, a traffic stop was made near Foddering Farm Road.

According to police, a background check of the driver – Gaudet – revealed that his license had been suspended. He was arrested after police allowed him to remove several valuables – a cell phone, an iPod and his girlfriend’s bracelet – from the car. The car was then towed from the scene.

Police said that a background check of the passenger – Peterson – revealed the warrant for his arrest. He was also arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

After processing, Gaudet was released at 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 25 with a Feb. 7 date for Fourth Division District Court. Peterson was held overnight to be arraigned in the morning.
