According to the bartender, the woman told her that kids shouldn’t be at a bar anyway. The bartender told the woman that they did have a restaurant as well. However, at that point, the bartender said a family member of the child, a 44-year-old Narragansett man, gave Macdonald’s group the middle finger, causing the situation to escalate.

At that point, police said Macdonald got up and punched the 44-year-old Narragansett man in the face. Following the punch, staff broke apart the two parties, and Johnson left. When police arrived, they spoke with the man, who was leaving with his family as they were coming in.

According to police, the owner of the restaurant allowed them to view security footage. Via the footage and witnesses statements from the staff, they were able to identify the puncher as Macdonald.

Police said an officer had stopped a car driven by the 42-year-old woman on South Pier Road after seeing it speeding away from Boon Street. The car’s occupants, which included Macdonald, were detained until police made the decision to arrest him.

According to police, Macdonald was charged with disorderly conduct. He was issued a Fourth Division District Court summons for Jan. 17 and released that night.
