Narragansett Police Log: July 11 and 12, 2011

Police reported the following arrests.

Public Service Announcement: Don’t Buy Blunts For Strangers

According to police, they received a report at about 7:17 p.m. on July 11 of a threatened assault with a knife.

Police said that a 27-year-old Narragansett man claimed that a friend of another friend approached him and asked him to buy “blunts and cigarettes” for him. The 27-year-old told police that he was reluctant to do so, but agreed to, and took some money from the man.

However, the 27-year-old told police that he changed his mind, and later gave the money back to the man. Later that night, the man and his friend came to the apartment and yelled at the 27-year-old.

According to the 27-year-old, the man had a knife in a leather sheath on his belt, but never removed it. The police advised the man to think before offering to purchase blunts for strangers, and told him and a 27-year-old woman at the apartment to call if the man returned.

Bicycles Found in Town

- According to police, they received a report at about 9:10 a.m. on July 11 of a found mountain bike on Brown Street.

An 85-year-old Narragansett woman turned the bike over to police. It was described as a red Rhino mountain bike.

- According to police, they received a report at about 11:22 a.m. on July 12 of a bound bicycle on Boston Neck Road.

A 36-year-old Narragansett man and an employee at Bonnet Video, the bicycle had been sitting outside the store for several days. It was described as a red Mongoose Outer Limit bicycle.

Police took the bicycle back to police headquarters. A check of the serial number revealed that it had not been reported stolen.

Surfboard Stolen from Car at South Pavilion

According to police, they received a report at about 4:55 p.m. on July 11 of a stolen surfboard at Narragansett Town Beach.

A 46-year-old Narragansett man told police that his Peter Pan slug long board had been taken from the roof of his car. He described the board as grey, about 9’10”, with a black leash and a single fin. He estimated the value at $800.

According to the man, the theft occurred sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Police broadcast a description of the surfboard to community service officers in the area, and the theft remains under investigation.
