Both witnesses said that they were in a car traveling behind Latham’s. They said prior to the accident, he had been traveling faster than 35 miles per hour and swerving on the road. He then hit the telephone pole.

According to the witnesses, when they got out of their car to check on his condition, he asked them if the police had been called. When they said that they had called police, they said the man went back to his car and threw several items into a nearby yard on Ocean Road.

Police searched the yard and found two empty bottles of Grey Goose vodka, along with a metal smoking pipe. Police asked Latham if he had thrown out any marijuana, and he told them no, but that he did have another pipe on his person, which he surrendered to police.

Based on the witness statements, police searched Latham’s car. In it, they found a pack of Camel cigarettes with a small amount of marijuana in the pack. Latham was arrested for possession of marijuana. A background check also revealed that his provisional driver’s license had expired.

Connecticut Woman Suspected of DWI; Husband Drives Home

According to police, they received multiple calls of an erratic driver in a tan Mitsubishi at about 2:30 p.m. on July 15 on Ocean Road near Central Street.

A patrolman in the area eventually found the car parked partially on the side of the road on Kingstown Road with a flat tire. According to the operator, a 47-year-old woman from Waterbury, CT, she had struck the curb on Kingstown Road and gotten a flat tire.

Police noted that the woman appeared unsteady on her feet, but did not smell of alcohol. When asked if she had taken any drugs that day, the woman said she had not been drinking, but had taken a few prescription Percocet for her wrist pain.

Another officer administrated a field sobriety test, which he said the woman failed. Police also noted that on the dashboard of the car was a speeding ticket issued by Charlestown Police earlier in the day. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The woman was transported to police headquarters but not arrested. Police noted that her two children in the car were crying because they thought her mother was going to jail.

Police called the husband of the woman and explained the situation to him. He drove to the station later that day and transported everyone home.

Narragansett Man Banned from Beach for Fake Pass

According to police, they received a report of a car with a fake beach pass at 1:57 p.m. on July 15.

Police said that a manager at Narragansett Town Beach reported the forgery. The pass was removed from the windshield of the vehicle, a silver Mercedes, and the owner was paged over the beach loudspeaker to return to his car.

The man, a 28-year-old Narragansett resident, told police that he had made the forgery because he was not allowed to buy a town pass. According to the man, this was because his license had a South Kingstown address on it.

Police, in consultation with beach staff, told the man he was banned from the beach for the rest of the year. A no-trespass order was issued.
