Police said that both the driver’s side and passenger’s side windows were cracked slightly, which allowed them to open the car. The puppy was doused with cool water, and transported to the Washington County Vet Hospital.
According to a doctor at the veterinary hospital, the puppy was only about 10 days old and should not have been separated from its mother yet. However, the dog was otherwise healthy, and the hospital said they would care for it until Narragansett animal control could pick it up the next morning.

Police said three men later came back to the car, but when approached, one fled on foot. The man who fled was identified by the two remaining men as Mark J. Jones, who had an active warrant out for his arrest.
According to police, a background check of the two remaining men revealed that one – Colbert – had a warrant out for his arrest as well. According to Narragansett police, the warrant was for failing to appear at a court hearing on June 24 for a Rhode Island State Police charge of driving with a suspended license.
Police said Colbert did not make $5,000 surety bail, and he was transported to the ACI at 8:15 p.m.
Runaway Car Causes Minor Damage
According to police, at about 9:15 a.m. on July 23 they received a report of a runaway car that caused an accident at South County Choppers in Bonnet Shores.
Police said that while a 20-year-old South Kingstown woman was getting her hair cut, her car, a red 2011 Volkswagon Golf, slid out of its parking spot and into another car. According to the woman, she had forgotten to use her emergency brake.
The other car, a black 2011 Kia Sorrento, was unoccupied at the time. Police said there were no injuries or arrests, and minor damage to both cars.
Rescue Board Stolen from Town Beach
According to police, at about 9:40 a.m. on July 23 they received a report of a stolen rescue board from Narragansett Town Beach.
According to Beach Manager David Cannon, the board had been stolen at about 6 p.m. on July 21. He said that he did not initially report the theft because he thought it may have been borrowed by a staff member.
Cannon told police that the board was stolen in the five minutes it took for the other rescue equipment from Chair 2 to be put away. He described it as about 12 feet long, red, with a white cross on it. He said it weighed about 45 pounds and could not be used for surfing. The value of the board is $800.
Police filed the report, and the incident remains under investigation.
