Johnston Woman Charged With Possession of Marijuana; Car Going Too Slow

Marissa D. Messier, 21, of 1445 Plainfield St., Apt. #1, Johnston, was arrested at about 1:05 a.m. on July 7 on a charge of possession of marijuana.

According to police, an officer driving on Point Judith Road on Clarke Road noted a car driven by a 22-year-old Johnston woman at a very low speed. The officer clocked the car at 25 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone, and noted that it was braking randomly.

Police said the driver said she was lost and trying to find the highway. However, the officer also noted the strong smell of burnt marijuana coming from the car.

A search of a purse that had been by Messier’s feet in the front passenger seat revealed a small plastic baggie of marijuana. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Police also found a small marijuana butt under the driver’s seat.

The driver was warned for a low traveling speed and given directions to the highway.

West Warwick Man Arrested on Third Division District Court Bench Warrant

Justin R. Silvia, 32, of 30 Standard Ave., Apt. #3, West Warwick, was arrested at about 7:40 a.m. on July 8 on a Third Division District Court warrant. According to police, the warrant was issued for failing to appear at a hearing related to a misdemeanor shoplifting charge emanating from Coventry.

According to police, an officer patrolling Point Judith Road spotted Silvia driving a white sedan without wearing his seat belt. A background check revealed the warrant, and Silvia was arrested. He was also cited for the seat belt violation.

GPS Stolen from Car

Police received a report of a stolen Tom Tom GPS and a Sony camera from a car on Chestnut Street at about 9:45 a.m. on July 8.

According to a 45-year-old man from Miller Place, NY, someone entered his car through an unlocked door the night before and stole the $100 camera and $150 GPS. The man said he was on vacation and staying at a home on Chestnut Street.

Police filed a witness statement from the man, and the incident remains under investigation.

Binoculars Stolen from Car

Police received a report of a stolen pair of Brookstone binoculars from a car on South River Drive at about 7:35 a.m. on July 7.

According to a 49-year-old Narragansett woman, someone entered her car through an unlocked door the night before and the stole the binoculars, valued at $100, and two $10 rolls of quarters.

Police filed a witness statement from the woman, and the incident remains under investigation.
