Narragansett Police Log: June 18 and 19, 2012
A Richmond woman is charged with drunken driving, and three men allegedly fight over a fishing spot.

Richmond Woman Charged With DWI
Amelia R. Vermilyea, 31, of 182 Shannock Hill Road, Richmond, was arrested at about 12:50 a.m. on June 19 and charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic saw a green Buick Century swerving while traveling on Burnside Avenue. A traffic stop was made on Point Judith Road near Palm Beach Avenue.
Police said Vermilyea was slow and deliberate with her answers, and admitted to having two drinks at George’s and a muscle relaxer pill. As a result, police asked her to submit to field sobriety tests, which they said she failed.

As a result, Vermilyea was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. She was held overnight for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court.
Two Providence Man Charged for Fight Over Fishing Spot
According to police, a fight over a fishing spot at the University of Rhode Island Bay Campus led to a pair of arrests at about 6 p.m. on June 19.
- Carlos A. Zuniga, 39, of 161 Glenbridge St., Apt. #2, Providence, was arrested and charged with felony assault and disorderly conduct.
- Dicxon Alexander Gonzalez, 20, of 73 Althea St., Providence, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Police said that based on statements from two witnesses, an argument between Zuniga, Gonzalez and a third man escalated, and Zuniga allegedly pointed a knife at the third man.
According to witness statements to the point, Gonzalez was swearing and yelling at the third man. As a result, he was charged with disorderly conduct.
Police said that a language barrier made interviewing the subjects somewhat difficult. However, the fight seemed to be about a fishing spot on the rocky shore at the exterior of the Bay Campus. Police said that URI Security also responded to the scene.
Pawtucket Teen Charged With Possession of Marijuana
Alex Semedo, 19, of 274 York Ave., Pawtucket, was arrested at about 3 a.m. on June 18 and charged with possession of marijuana.
According to police, an officer traveling behind a silver Chevy Monte Carlo on Burnside Avenue saw it swerving. A traffic stop was made on Angell Road near Ocean Road.
Police said the car smelled strongly of marijuana, and when the driver – Semedo – was asked about it, he told police he had about “an eighth of weed on me.” Police said they found the marijuana in a backpack, as Semedo described it, and he was arrested without incident.
According to police, they confiscated a bottle of Bacardi rum and one Carona Light beer. Police cited Semeo for transportation of alcohol by a minor as a result. A passenger in the car with an active license was allowed to drive it from the scene.
South Kingstown Man Arrested for Suspended License
George M. Shackleton, 65, of 755 Moonstone Beach Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 12:19 a.m. on June 18 and charged with driving with a suspended license.
According to police, an officer traveling behind a gray Chevy S10 on Point Judith Road near Clarke Road noted that it had multiple registration stickers on its rear plate, making it impossible to identify the current one. A check of the plate revealed that the registration was suspended.
Police made a traffic stop on Point Judith Road near the Westlakes Garage. A background check of the driver – Shackleton – revealed that his license had been suspended in April 2011 for reckless operation.
Shackleton was arrested and transported to police headquarters without incident for processing. He was also cited for an expired registration.
