Narragansett Police Log: June 20 and 21, 2012

A man who talked about previous crimes on Facebook is arrested again, and a 14-year-old with a knife is found near Scarborough.

14-Year-Old Providence Boy With Knife Running Around Narragansett

According to police, at about 3 p.m. on June 20 they received a report of a teenager with a knife.

Police said a Scituate resident staying at a home on Middle Road told them that a young man with a knife had knocked on her door. She said the man told her he was being chased, and after speaking with her, he ran off toward Burnside Avenue.

According to police, they searched the nearby area with negative results, but broadcast a description to state police, who had two officers stationed at Scarborough Beach.

State police found a 14-year-old Providence boy matching the broadcast description at about 4:16 p.m. at the Knowles Campground. Troopers said the boy had a kitchen knife in his backpack.

According to state police, the boy said four other boys had approached him while he was at Scarborough Beach and wanted to fight him, so he took out the knife for protection.

State police said they confiscated the knife. The boy was escorted to a bus to be transported back to Providence.

Connecticut Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Adrian Benitez, 21, of 15 North Main Street, Windsor Locks, CT, was arrested at about 4:14 p.m. on June 21 and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, an officer on bicycle patrol near the seawall saw a red Cadillac illegally parked on the corner of Ocean Road and Congdon Street. The officer said that as he approached the car, he could see smoke coming out of the driver’s side window, which smelled like marijuana.

Police said that a search of the car revealed a small jar of marijuana in the center console. Benitez was arrested without incident, processed and released at about 8:11 p.m.

Warwick Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Michael A. Jackson, 20, of 155 Haswill St., Warwick, was arrested at about 12:59 a.m. on June 21 and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, two officers on foot patrol at Scarborough Beach saw a group of five sitting on benches. Police said as they approached the group, they smelled marijuana, and noted a man later identified as Jackson smoking.

Police said when asked what he was smoking, Jackson told them, “Weed.” According to police, a search of Jackson’s backpack also revealed a small bag with marijuana, and he was arrested without incident. He was processed and released at about 3 a.m.

North Kingstown Man Charged with Driving With Suspended License

Jonathan Kunze, 22, of 23 Dayton Court, North Kingstown, was arrested at about 5:40 p.m. on June 21 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer traveling behind a blue Jeep Cherokee on Boston Neck Road near Old Boston Neck Road noted that it had its left blinker on but made no attempt to turn in the half mile it was followed.

Police also noted that it was tailgating a motorcycle, but made no attempt to pass the motorcycle when the motorcycle went into the breakdown lane.

According to police, the driver – Kunze – said he didn’t have his license. A passenger in the front seat also didn’t have his license, and neither did a 24-year-old woman in the back seat.

Police noted that the woman was highly intoxicated, despite the presence of her children, a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy.

Police said a background check revealed that Kunze’s license was suspended in August 2010 for failing to appear at a court hearing. They also noted that he was also on probation for a breaking and entering offense, which he had just finished serving a year at the ACI for.

As a result, Kunze was arrested and transported to headquarters. The front passenger’s license was also suspended, and he told police he would walk to a nearby bus stop.

The woman and her children were transported to police headquarters because of concerns about their safety, police said. A family member of the woman responded at about 6:30 p.m. and transported the three home.

Kunze was processed and released at about 8 p.m. He was also cited for tailgating.

Providence Man Charged with Public Urination

Raul Ruano, 24, of 63 Fuller Ave., Providence, was arrested at about 2:42 p.m. on June 21 and charged with public urination.

According to police, while an officer drove down Knowlesway he allegedly saw Ruano urinating on a car. The officer noted that because of the heat, there was heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the day, and as a result Ruano was arrested.

Police said Ruano was processed at headquarters and released at about 3:02 p.m.

Narragansett Man Arrested for Warrant

Joseph R. McBride, 24, of 145 Boon St., Narragansett, was arrested at about 6:09 p.m. on June 21. Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was out for his arrest on a charge of receiving stolen goods worth more than $500, a felony.

According to police, an officer familiar with McBride from past arrests saw him driving a grey Mitsubishi on Point Judith Road. After confirming that McBridge had a warrant out for his arrest, a traffic stop was made near the Shell gas station, and he was arrested without incident.

Police said McBridge was transported to the ACI. A relative took possession of several of his items at about 9:15 p.m., police said, and a friend was allowed to drive the car from the scene.
