Narragansett Police Log: March 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2012

According to police, an alert driver helps them catch a Narragansett resident allegedly drunken driving.

Narragansett Man Charged With DWI Thanks to Good Samaritan

Richard A. Wall, 36, of 191 Boston Neck Road, Apt. #A, Narragansett, was arrested at about 11:04 p.m. on March 17 and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, a 53-year-old Narragansett woman told them that while stopped at an intersection on Twinleaf Trail, a black truck traveling in the wrong lane almost collided with her head-on. The woman called police and provided them with the license plate number.

The woman told police that she followed the truck, and noticed it almost hit a telephone poll on Boston Neck Road, near the Bonnet Shores Shell station. She told police that the truck almost hit another car head-on while traveling on Boston Neck Road near Cumberland Farms.

The woman continued to follow the truck until an officer was able to pull it over near Anawan Drive. She later provided police with a written witness statement.

According to the officer, when he initially got the bulletin from dispatch, he was crossing the Sprague Bridge. He drove to Jenkes Court, monitoring traffic, and noted the truck passing his position. He then followed the truck and made a traffic stop near Anawan Drive.

The officer noted that he was friends with Wall, and as a result, he requested that a different officer respond to the scene. The initial officer was replaced by an on-duty sergeant and a patrolman for the arrest.

Police asked Wall how much he had had to drink, and he told them five Guinness beers in the span of two hours. According to police, Wall failed field sobriety tests, and refused to submit to a chemical test.

As a result, he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for laned roadway violations, and for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Wall’s truck was towed from the scene.

Narragansett Man Charged With DWI After Not Lying or Telling About Drinks

Nathan C. Wallace, 28, of 24 Perkins Ave., Apt. #2, Narragansett, was arrested at about 12:55 a.m. on March 19 and charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to police, an officer was almost hit by Wallace at the Dillon Rotary when Wallace did not yield while driving his Volkswagen Jetta. A traffic stop was made near Washington Trust Bank.

When police asked for his license and registration, they said that Wallace smiled. When asked if he understood the instructions, police said Wallace replied, “Yup.”

Police asked if Wallace had been drinking, to which he allegedly replied, “I’m not gonna lie to you.” When police then asked how many drinks he had had, he allegedly told them, “I’m not gonna tell you either.”

According to police, Wallace could not find his insurance card or registration info. Police said Wallace failed field sobriety tests.

Police said a search of Wallace’s car revealed a small bag of marijuana and a pipe. However, Wallace provided police with a marijuana patient caregiver card, and was not charged with possession.

Police did arrest Wallace and charged him with driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, laned roadway violations, failing to properly yield and operating a motor vehicle without proper insurance. He was released at 3 a.m.

Pawtucket Man, Trying to Impress Girl, Arrested For Not Having License

Ismael Gomez Jr., 23, of 27 Dexter Court, Apt. #12, Pawtucket, was arrested at about 4:18 p.m. on March 19 and charged with driving without a license.

According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road at the intersection of Burnside Avenue was stopped at the light behind a car driven by Gomez. The officer noted that the car had a cracked front windshield and a defective brake light.

As a result, a traffic stop was made on Burnside Avenue near Defelice Road. Gomez did not have a license and was placed under arrest.

When asked by police about the license, Gomez told them, “I know, I was just trying to impress this girl.”

A 19-year-old Pawtucket woman in the car did have a license, and drove the car from the scene.

K-9 Goro Helps Out With South Kingstown Search

At about 9:27 p.m. on March 19, Narragansett police received a request from South Kingstown police for help from the K-9 unit for a possible breaking and entering.

A man on MacArthur Boulevard told police that he was worried his home had been broken into and that the suspect was still inside. The man told police that the previous week, copper pipes had been stolen.

K-9 unit Goro search the home, but did not find any suspects. The scene was cleared.
