Narragansett Police Log: March 23 and 24, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Richmond Man Charged with Felony Domestic Assault

Jeffrey M. Zaremba, 33, of 1110 Main St., Richmond, was arrested at about 2:09 a.m. on March 23 and charged with domestic disorderly conduct, domestic assault and domestic vandalism.

Police noted that the domestic assault charge was elevated to a felony because it was Zaremba’s third separate domestic charge.

According to police, they received a report of a domestic incident occurring in the parking lot of the Mobil on Point Judith Road at about 2 a.m. Police said a 30-year-old Narragansett woman was standing outside of a car and crying.

Police said the woman was bleeding from two small cuts under her eye. When asked about the cuts, the woman told police that Zaremba threw a bottle of cranberry juice at her. Police noted that the woman was also covered in the juice.

The woman told police that Zaremba was upset with her because he wanted to drive the car home. The woman said that she was the only one sober enough to drive Zaremba and two other friends home. She said Zaremba threw the bottle at her and broke her car key in the ignition.

Police attempted to interview Zaremba, but said he would not cooperate. He was placed under arrest, at which time police said the victim refused to cooperate, or have photos taken of her injury. Police said the two other passengers also refused to complete written statements.

According to police, because the key was snapped off in the ignition of the car, it could not be driven from the scene. The victim and the two passengers refused a ride to an area hotel, and said they would have someone come jump the car for them.

Zaremba was held for arraignment Friday morning in Fourth Division District Court beause of the felony charge against him.

URI Student Charged with Transportation of Alcohol By a Minor

Christopher P. Roque, 20, of 100 Pennsylvania Ave., Warren, was cited at about 8:18 p.m. on March 23 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Roque is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road near Clarke Road saw a white Ford Focus without a rear license plate light. A traffic stop was made on Palm Beach Avenue near Melbourne Drive.

Police said during the traffic stop, a 12-pack of Rolling Rock was visible near the feet of the passenger, a 22-year-old man. A background check revealed that the driver – Roque – was only 20.

Roque was cited for transportation of alcohol by a minor, and the beer was confiscated and disposed of. Roque was also warned for the defective plate light and allowed to leave the area.

(Different) URI Student Charged with Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor

Patrick J. Brown, 19, of 12 Magan Way, Little Compton, was cited at about 12:21 a.m. on March 24 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Brown is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, a traffic stop was made of Brown’s car after an officer saw it swerving on Point Judith Road near the Mobil station.

Police said the car smelled of marijuana. When asked about it, Brown allegedly told police that he and two passengers had smoked earlier in the night.

According to police, a search of the car revealed a 30-pack of Bud Light with eight beers left, but no narcotics. The alcohol was confiscated, Brown was cited for the violation, and then allowed to drive from the scene.

URI Student Charged with Underage Alcohol Possession

Luis Moronta Jr., 19, of 11 Fraternity Circle at the University of Rhode Island, was cited at about 4:21 p.m. on March 23 and charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer on foot patrol at Narragansett Beach saw Moronta with an open can of Bud Light. A background check revealed that he was only 19, and the beer was confiscated. Moronta was cited.

Two (Different) URI Students Charged with Underage Alcohol Possession

Nicholas G. Carisio, 20, of Barlow Hall at the University of Rhode Island, and Elena J. Manke, 18, of 1725 Cheshire St., Cheshire, CT, were cited at about 11:59 p.m. on March 23 and charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer patrolling Hope Lane saw Carisio and Manke walking on the street with a bottle of Coors Light and a handle of Smirnoff. A background check revealed that he was 20, and she was 18. The alcohol was confiscated, and Carisio and Manke were cited.

Police End 50-Person Party on Kingstown Road

At about 6:48 p.m. on March 23, police received a report of a loud party at 82 Kingstown Road.

According to police, about 50 people were at the party, which had a band playing on the front porch. Police said the renters were cooperative, and there was only minor parking violations on Robinson Street.

The renters were identified as 22-year-olds Jaime A. Jonach, Kaitlyn A. Marinan, Emily Mungan and Nadine P. Martelli, and 21-year-old Anne E. Galligan. All signed the public nuisance form.

Police End 35 to 40-Person Party on Kingstown Road

At about 2:22 a.m. on March 23, police received a report of a loud party at 24 Tern Road.

According to police, five women were in front of the house and talking very loudly, accounting for a good portion of the noise. Police said loud noises could also be heard coming from the house. Police said the tenants broke up the party quickly and without incident when asked.

The renters were identified at Angelo A. Costa, 21, and Colin J. Perkins, 20. Both signed the public nuisance form.
