Seven people were arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on May 1 after police determined that a fight ensued following a marijuana transaction.

When police initially responded, two people – Ilya S. Ryaboy, 20, of 8 Gabriel Road, Sharon, MA, and Christopher J. Gallant, 20, of 50 Glover Drive, Stoughton, MA – said they had followed the car because the occupants had taken something from their home on Beach Plum Road. Another witness identified Ryaboy as the person hanging out of the car as it was moving.

Ryaboy initially claimed not to know Drew E. Harris, 19, of 50 Northgate Lane, Willingboro, NJ, who was identified by another witness as leaving the house and getting into the car. However, when questioned further by police, Ryaboy said that Harris and another man had come over to smoke and buy some marijuana.

While buying though, Ryaboy said that Harris stood up, threatened him and then tried to leave with the marijuana and the $25 he paid for it. Ryaboy said Harris was not able to take the marijuana, however, a search by police revealed only a minimal amount left at the house.

At that point, Ryaboy said he chased after Harris, the other man and the car. He said that two of his roommates, Gregory E. Glassman, 21, of 9 Baldwin Road, Sharon, MA, and Gallant, were at the house when the disturbance occurred and chased after the car with him.

According to the Narragansett woman, the car was stalling out as it tried to drive down Beach Plum Road. She said an open door of the car hit her car as she was attempting to drive by. She also noted that the rear window of the car was smashed out, and that several people were chasing the car, but she didn’t know if they had caused the damage.

Police said an officer at the emergency room of South County Hospital reported that Glassman was there, getting treatment for an injured hand. According to the officer, Glassman admitted to punching out the rear window of the car. He said that another roommate with him had nothing to do with the incident.

A South Kingstown police officer made a traffic stop on the car in South Kingstown. According to police from both towns, Harris did not wish to press charges against Glassman for the broken window, and Ryaboy did not want to press charges against Harris for the theft.

As a result, police arrested Ryaboy, Glassman, Gallant and Harris for disorderly conduct. Three passengers in Harris’ car – Josh Moody, 19, of 136 Arlington Ave., Staten Island, NY; Ramadan I. Abdullah, 19, of 1919 73rd Ave., Philadelphia, PA; and Jackie Ivery Jr., 20, of 16 Thornhill Lane, Willingboro, NJ – were also arrested for disorderly conduct.

According to online records, Ryaboy, Glassman, Gallant, Abdullah and Moody are URI students. Moody and Abdullah are members of the URI football squad’s 2011 spring roster.
