According to police, at about 6:33 p.m. on Sept. 12 a 40-year-old Narragansett summer resident reported that she was being harassed by a man she was involved in a traffic accident with.

Police said that the woman told them she had gotten in an accident with a 44-year-old Narragansett man in the past. In the accident, the wheel of her car was damaged.

Because the man promised to pay for the damage and wished to avoid filing a police report, she agreed to let him pay her back in the future. After he didn’t pay in a timely fashion, she filed a police report. The woman said that after she filed the report, she received a check in the mail for $550 from the man and considered the incident over.

However, the woman said that on Sept. 12, she received a call from an unidentified man saying that he was calling on behalf of the 44-year-old Narragansett man. The woman said that he told her that since they paid for a new wheel, they wanted the old one. The woman said the man was threatening her, yelling and screaming over the phone.

Police said they called the number provided by the woman, and got a man who was angry that she had overcharged “his brother.” The man told police that he didn’t think the wheel needed to be replaced, and wanted the old wheel as proof.

At this point, police said that the man involved with the accident got on the phone. Police said that he was even more upset.

However, police told him that because he had opted to forego police involvement, he had also missed the opportunity to obtain three quotes for the damage. Police advised him that his call was perceived as a threat to the woman, and to not contact her in the future.
