According to police, Collins smelled of alcohol, and failed a field sobriety test. Police said he was so intoxicated, he could not complete the test. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, and evading police.
Police gave Collins two breath tests, and according to police, his blood alcohol content was .260 and .255, both three times the legal limit. He was arraigned and released in the morning.
Two-For-One: Traffic Stop Leads to Pair of Arrests
Garrett M. Arnold, 20, of 95 Coe St., Woonsocket, was arrested at about 6:17 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license.
According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road clocked a maroon Dodge Intrepid driven by Arnold at 62 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. Police said the plates also did not match the vehicle’s registration info.
Police made a traffic stop. Arnold told them that he had recently purchased the vehicle from a family member and hadn’t registered it yet. He provided police with a bill of sale from Aug. 6.
However, police said a background check revealed that Arnold’s license had four hits on it preventing its use – He did not pay at a May 6 court hearing, he didn’t have proof of insurance on May 7, he was caught driving his car without a proper license on July 23, and he was cited again on Sept. 13 for failing to appear at a court hearing.
As a result, the car was towed from the scene, and Arnold was transported to police headquarters. His passenger, 19-year-old Tiffany Martineau, of 9 East St., First Floor Apartment, Woonsocket, waited with their 1-year-old child until a friend picked her up.
After her ride picked her up though, police received a report from a dispatcher that “Tiffany” was an alias. A second background check revealed that Woonsocket Police had a warrant out for Tiphakone T. Martineau.
Police went to the home of the friend, on Ponagansett Parkway, and made an arrest without incident.
Middletown Woman Arrested for Assault, Vandalism, Throwing Drink in Face
Amber Costa, 20, of 16 High St., Middletown, was arrested at about 9:51 p.m. on Sept. 19 and charged with assault and vandalism.
According to police, on Sept. 15 they received a report of an assault at Charlie O’s. Police said that according to an 18-year-old Newport woman, Costa threw a full cup of beer in her face at about 11:55 p.m., damaging her eyes and ruining her phone.
The victim told police that she believed the woman was upset because she was now dating the victim’s ex-boyfriend. The victim added that Costa had also posted on Twitter about the incident.
According to police, they called Costa that night and she admitted to throwing the beer in the victim’s face. She reported to police headquarters on Sept. 19 and turned herself in. She was processed and released that night.
Narragansett Resident Cited for Driving with Expired License
Clayton W. Shepherd, 18, of 93 East Shore Road, Narragansett, was cited at about 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 20 and charged with driving with an expired license.
According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road saw a silver Subaru station wagon with a rear passenger side taillight out. A traffic stop was made by the Fort Greene Army Reserve Center.
Police said a background check revealed that Shepherd’s license expired on July 20. He was cited, and a family member drove his car home. Police told him he could get the charge dropped if he returned with proof of license reinstatement within 10 days.
