Smithfield Woman Charged with DWI
Meredith Abramek, 27, of 130 Mann School Road, Smithfield, was arrested at about 12:21 a.m. on Sept. 4 and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.
According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road saw a maroon Honda Accord traveling toward the Route 1 overpass with the driver’s side headlight out. The officer noted that the driver’s side mirror and damage on the side of the car also seemed to be recent.

A traffic stop was made on the Route 1 North overpass. According to police, they had to ask Abramek multiple times for her license and registration. She was not able to initially find her proof of insurance, but police later found it while doing an inventory of her car.
Police said that based on Abramek’s fumbling and the smell of alcohol on her breath, a field sobriety test was conducted, which she failed. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she refused to submit to a chemical test.

West Warwick Woman Argues With Boyfriend; Background Check Reveals Warrant
Amy Beth Butler, 35, of 26 Ledge Drive, West Warwick, was arrested at about 4:54 p.m. on Sept. 4. According to police, a Sixth Division District Court warrant was out for her arrest because she failed to attend a court hearing.
Police said they were called to the Salt Pond Plaza after receiving a report of a couple fighting. According to police, a 32-year-old East Providence man was holding Butler’s purse and wouldn’t give it back to her.
Police said a background check revealed a warrant out for Butler’s arrest. She was transported to the ACI without incident. Because the argument between Butler and the man was just verbal, he was not arrested.
