Police said a search of the neighborhood revealed a blue Mazda further down the road, under a tarp. The car was about one-fifth of a mile away from the accident scene.
According to police, Simeone and his mother at first denied that anyone had been driving the car that night. Police said they removed the tarp from the car, and at that point noticed yellow paint transfer from the fire hydrant.

Confronted with the car damage, police said his mother then claimed that she had been in the car with him, However, police told Simeone and his mother that they had witnesses claiming that he was alone in the car.
According to police, at this point Simeone admitted that he had been driving the car, and that he had lied because he was afraid of being sent to the ACI for 90 days. He told police that his license had been suspended because of a DWI in 2004, and that he had also pleaded no contest on Aug. 24 to an assault charge.
Police arrested Simeone and transferred him to police headquarters. He was arraigned and given personal recognizance, but held without bail because of other charges pending against him. He is scheduled to appear in Fourth Division District Court on Sept. 21.
