[VIDEO] NHS Students Can Dodge Wrenches, And Thus, Dodge Balls

The Narragansett High School gym fills up with rabble-rouses, brutes and philistines as students throw red, spheroid projectiles at one another. (Translation: Dodgeball.)

Much like the epic battle between Average Joe’s and Globo-Gym, the annual Narragansett High School dodgeball tournament featured larger than life personalities and epic battle that won’t soon be forgotten by the titans of sport participating.

… Well, that might be a bit overblown. Still, the event was fun for the attendees Tuesday night, and things got surprisingly heated and competitive for the final two match-ups.

In the semifinals, a team made up of football players Mark Griffith, Peter Durkin, Mark Griffith, Connor Timpson, Jared Baptista and basketball player Patrick Doyle lost 1-0. The team was disqualified from a second game after a player swore. Also playing for the team earlier in the night were Mike Herchen, Francis Castrovillari and PJ Dougherty.

In the finals, the second place team needed four wins in order to overcome the advantage of the undefeated winner’s bracket team. However, the winning team took the tournament with a 2-1 final match.

Playing for the winners were juniors Sonny Brunette, Mikey Paradise, Robert Peterson, Jimmy Kershaw, Zach McKanna and Mickey Sahagian.

Several other teams played, including one featuring members of the girls’ soccer team with coaches Kathryn Mahoney and Jenny Sayles. A team of volleyball, cheerleading and track girls won the high fashion award for the night, with two members playing with ballet tutus.
