10:15 p.m. –According to Narragansett Police, the Coast Guard is searching for a man reported to have gone into Narragansett Town Beach at about 7 p.m., and police are looking for information from the community about the swimmer.

A Narragansett police sergeant said they received a call at about 7:30 p.m. from a pair of people at the beach.

They told police that at about 7 p.m., they had seen a six-foot tall white man in his early 20s in board shorts walk out to the water to swim. After about 30 minutes, they became concerned when he did not come back, and called police.

According to police, the callers did not know the man and could not provide an ID. There were about six cars in the parking lot of the beach, also making it difficult for an ID via license plates.

Police said they walked up and down the beach, searching for the man, but there was no evidence that he had exited the water in another location. Also, they noted that he had left a green beach chair behind.

As of 10 p.m., two Coast Guard boats and a helicopter had not found the man. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 789-1093 for a police dispatcher.
