Pound of Pot, Guns Seized by Police after Pursuit in Narragansett

An East Greenwich man, 21, and Pawtucket man, 25, face gun and drug charges after they allegedly robbed and assaulted a Narragansett woman.

NARRAGANSETT—Two men are facing gun and drug charges after a police chase in Narragansett sparked by their alleged armed assault and robbery of a woman in Bonnet Shores on Wednesday.

Police seized about a pound of marijuana and a gun from the car after the chase ended with the arrests of Derek Messier, 21, of East Greenwich; and Ynsfrain Pena, 25, of Pawtucket.

Both men are being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions on charges of first-degree robbery, conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver, carrying a firearm during a violent crime and other assorted charges.

According to police, the victim, a 21-year-old female, told police that the men robbed her and pistol-whipped her when she resisted.

Police believe the robbery was drug related.

As police pursued the suspects, a gun reportedly was thrown from the car.

Both men are due to return to court on March 23.
