RI Power Outages: More Than 2,200 Still Waiting

National Grid was expected to have all its customers back by Thursday night, but by 10:15 p.m., 5,000 households were still in the dark.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI—National Grid was expected to have all its customers back in service by Thursday night, but by 5 p.m., 5,000-plus households were still without electricity. Most were in Washington County, according to the company's power outage map.

"There were many cases of downed trees – not just limbs – causing broken poles and downed wires," National Grid said. "Reconstruction work continues, along with the labor-intensive process of cleaning up tree damage, setting new poles, and repairing wires down. Crews will continue to work through the night until the last customer is restored."

Estimates pushed the restoration time everywhere in Rhode Island to 6 a.m. Friday. But at 7 a.m., more than 2,000 households were still in the dark.
