Sports Roundup: Girls’ Soccer Wins First in Romp; Volleyball, Cross County Today
The girls' soccer team easily handles Davies on the road. Today, the girls' and boys' cross country teams start their seasons, and volleyball travels to Middletown.

The Narragansett High School girls’ soccer team took the first step toward defending their Division III title, overwhelming Davies 11-0 on Friday afternoon.
According to a box score published by The Providence Journal, the Mariners led 7-0 after a half. Narragansett heavily played reserves in the second half.

Girls’ Tennis Falls to Portsmouth, 6-1
The Narragansett girls’ tennis team lost its first league game of the year, falling to Portsmouth 6-1 on Friday afternoon.

According to a box score published by The Providence Journal, the Mariners (1-1, 0-1 Division II-South) got its lone win in doubles. The team of Kristen Gershkoff and Olivia Scalora defeated Rory Burns and Caroline Herter 4-6, 6-4 and 7-5.
In previous action, the Mariners beat Toll Gate in a non-league match, 4-3.
This week, Narragansett plays South Kingstown (2-0, 2-0 Division II-South) at the Broad Rock tennis courts 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Mariners then host Coventry (0-1, 0-1 Division II-South) on Wednesday and Westerly (0-2, 0-2 Division II-South) on Thursday. Both matches are at 3:45 p.m.
Junior varsity is scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Kingstown. The Mariners host East Greenwich at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Middle School Sports
In middle school sports action, the boys’ soccer team picked up their first win of the year at Westerly on Friday, 3-0. The boys host Msgr. Clarke at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and the Jamestown School at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
The girls’ soccer team lost their home opener to Westerly, 7-2, on Friday. The girls play an inverse schedule of the boys, traveling to Msgr. Clarke and Jamestown for games at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
The boys’ cross-country team starts its season 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Ocean State Invitational. The meet is held at Goddard Park.

- The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams both start their regular season 4 p.m. Monday. The Mariners host West Warwick and Chariho.
- Girls’ volleyball travels to Middletown (0-1, 0-1 Division II-South) for a 6:30 p.m. game today. Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m. The Mariners host Exeter-West Greenwich (2-0, 1-0 Division II-South) at 6 p.m. Thursday, with junior varsity at 4:15 p.m.
- Boys’ soccer hosts East Greenwich (2-0, 2-0 Division II-South) at 3:45 p.m. Friday. Junior varsity is at 5 p.m. Also, junior varsity is scheduled to play at South Kingstown 3:45 p.m. Thursday. The game will be at Tuckertown Park.
- Football plays at Tiverton (1-1, 0-0 Division III) on Saturday, in the Division III opener for both teams. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
